Fund for the Plunge

Three! Two! One! Run! Sprinting into the frosty water on legs blanketed in goosebumps; The damp sand sending shivers through every toe, a group of dedicated, young leaders splash into the abyss.

The Polar Plunge is an annual fundraiser put on to raise money for the Special Olympics organization. The money is raised by inviting students and faculty out to dive into a section of a frozen lake cut from the ice above it. Many schools across Missouri are taking the Plunge, raising money with every brave participant.

Liberty North’s Student Council has participated in Polar Plunge for the past three years, growing in size with each chilly expedition.  Liberty North, who won the Bronze Plunger with their gorilla and bananas costume, is going for the Gold this year adorned in Cows and Farmers outfits.

Every participant is required to raise a minimum of fifty dollars to take this freezing jump. Students are doing anything from getting sponsors off Facebook, to bake sales, and more to meet the requirement. The goal of 300,000 dollars was set by the Missouri Special Olympics organization; Currently resting at 7,349 dollars, there’s a long ways to go. Student Council will be partnering with other clubs to raise the biggest Liberty North participation for the Polar Plunge in school history.

To sign up to join Liberty North’s team, talk to Lindsey Plaster or Doug Davis in room 817 before January 31st (the date of the event). To donate, money can be brought to either one of them, any Student Council member needing sponsors, or click this link that leads to the Missouri Special Olympics website.
