Cupcake Goodness

Cupcake Appreciation Club is taking over Liberty North High school, one cupcake at a time.  Though appreciating cupcakes may seem as though a simple task, this club allows students to not only binge on delicious, unhealthy food, but to share unique recipes and technique.

“[The purpose is] to have students enjoy the art of baking cupcakes and the details that can go into each one that is created,” club sponsor, Mrs. Brock said.

Whatever technique, be it from scratch or the beloved Betty Crocker box, all members are welcome and encouraged to join.

“I want it to be a fun environment, just completely laid back. Hopefully in the future we can partake in fundraisers and provide cupcakes for school activities.  I hope that this club will continue to grow and gain a huge following,” junior Sage Foley said.

Cupcake Club will participate in many activities throughout the year, some of which include field trips to local bakeries.  Students will also participate in critiquing each others cupcake creations.

“A positive rubric will be provided to “judge” the cupcakes and awards will be handed out in April. A field trip to a cupcakery is planned for March to watch how they bake and decorate each cupcake,” Brock said.

Not only do students get to indulge in loads of frosting goodness, but they also get to participate in activities that do not include math, science, or communication arts.

“I wanted to create a club where whoever has a passion for baking can pursue that passion at school, and have a good time doing it,” Foley said.

So what will students get out of this club other than some really yummy food?

“Fun, fellowship, ideas, and maybe a few extra calories! Cupcakes just make people smile!” Brock said.
