Twenty One Pilots Concert Recap

Twenty One Pilots Concert Recap

For many fans, Twenty One Pilots is more than just a band they like. Twenty One Pilots, instead, is like a good friend. Their songs speak to fans about issues that they struggle with in their life. Hearing the songs and their deep lyrics often make the listeners feel less alone.

That vibe was very strong at the show Tuesday night. You found people of all walks of life, coming to the Starlight Theatre on that night with one thing in mind, seeing a band that speaks volumes to them and helped them through their darkest, most insane times.

The show started out with the band Finish Ticket as the first opener. Last.fm describes them as “an up and coming alternative/indie band from the San Francisco Bay area.” Their sound was a classic alternative sound and they were fairly good. It was definitely nice to see a new, and predominantly unheard of band as their opener.  Next, came the popular band Echosmith to the stage, often described as an indie pop band. The band, of course played they’re very popular song “Cool Kids”, which had a bubbly, pop vibe to it, and another popular song, “Bright”, which demonstrated a softer sound. At the end of “Cool Kids”, lead singer, Sydney Sierota, gave a speech to everyone in the audience that “Cool Kids” was written during a time that the band members felt like they didn’t fit in, felt out of place, unwanted, or unneeded. Sydney reminded the audience that they are loved and needed on the Earth. By the time Echosmith started playing “Bright”, the audience was pumped up. The wait in between each act was long, and the anticipation stated to build.

Twenty One Pilots started out the show with the song “Heavydirtysoul” from their newest album “Blurryface”. They continued to play through the majority of the songs from that album, a few songs from their second album, such as “Holding Onto You”, “Guns for Hands”, “Migraine”, “House of Gold”, “Car Radio”, “Semi-Automatic”, “Screen”, “The Run and Go”, “Guns for Hands”, and “Trees” from their second album  “Vessel”. The Band even played songs such as “The Pantaloon” and “Addict With A Pen” from their first album, and Tyler Joseph played his cover (with his ukulele of course) of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, which is only found on YouTube. After two encores, the band finished off with the song “Goner” from their newest album.

Though I’m weak and beaten down, I’ll slip away into this sound, The ghost of you is close to me, I’m inside-out, you’re underneath. -Goner

The band sported their iconic attire, including the floral kimono that lead singer Tyler Joseph always wears, Tyler Joseph’s red beanie, the iconic masks, and drummer Josh Dun sported a snapback.

The band was very interactive with the crowd, as Tyler ran out into the audience during “Holding Onto You”, and “Car Radio”. Josh Dun flipped off of the piano, and Tyler Joseph jumped. Tyler Joseph even stopped “The Run and Go” twice  to discuss a fly and lady bug that landed on his piano.

Overall, the concert was an amazing experience. It was one of those truly life altering events, especially for those who have a deep and true love for the band in their heart.
