Mumford and Sons, a British rock band from London, England, has released three studio albums, Sigh No More, Babel, and their newest release, Wilder Mind. Although I’m not usually a Mumford and Sons fan, after listening to Wilder Mind, who knows? I might just have to consider myself one.

Upon listening to the new album for the first time, I had originally concluded that every single song sounded the same with the same notes, same lyrics, same tone and mood; virtually the same song twelve times with only minute differences. However, after taking the time to sit down and truly hear each song for what it was, I realized how wrong I had been. Yes, the songs are similar, but what is actually similar between them is the band’s style which is consistently apparent.

Although I personally feel Mumford and Sons is on the soft, alternative side of rock, they do still fit in that category because of the almost rebellious undertone of each song. My favorite songs on this new album include “Believe”, “Monster”, and “Snake Eyes”. These three songs had brilliant choruses and were easy to pick up as a listener and sing along to.

This album is the perfect soundtrack to the next summer storm or those lounging in the hammock afternoons. It’s very moody and a little dark, perfect for background music or just for peaceful listening. However, I would not choose this album to play for any events or get-togethers since most of the songs are not upbeat.

Overall, I would surely recommend this album and would give it 4 out of 5 stars.
