Mockingjay Review

Mockingjay Part 1 THE MOVIE

Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the movie Mockingjay Part 1. In my opinion, what should have been an action-packed movie was slow-moving, full of constant introductions, and building up the characters throughout the 1st hour and a half. There wasn’t much of a plot to the movie and honestly, it was slightly boring. I feel the movie makers did not need to stretch Mockingjay out into two parts, but despite the slow start, there was a redeeming quality in the finale! And not in a “oh-thank-God-it’s-over” kind of way, but a dramatic, heart racing, bug eye, yanking you from your seat, and muffling your scream kind of way. There’s no denying it ends with a BANG!

Mockingjay THE BOOK

Sadly, my thoughts for the book Mockingjay are not highlighted in a much brighter light as the book left me like a snail in a race, slowly struggling along to the finish line. The novel that started it all was full of creativity and new ideas, but the neither of the succeeding books exceed the greatness and expectations The Hunger Games had made. I was especially disappointed with the last of the trilogy. Although the book was filled with twists and turns, most were anticipated and others just cruel. The plot is plagued with death and awfully depressing, void of the much needed comic relief. Another complaint I have is the introduction of too many new characters creates confusion for the reader.  The love triangle which has driven the series is finally resolved, but leaves something to be desired and does not completely tie up loose ends or give you insight on the lives of the characters you have journeyed with for so long.  Although this book was filled with many tragedies, I enjoyed the information that the epilogue did provide and the hopeful closing for the life of a new day.
