Are you down for the downtown redevelopment?

A brand new project starts as many business leaders and building owners meetup to discuss the plans for the downtown redevelopment. Over 50 people were at this meeting, and all had the chance to share their ideas. Many came to hear the confluence principal Terry Berkbuegler who is known for urban designing.

“I have followed Terry’s designs, and I actually really like his urban designing,” senior Rodney Hinton said.

Berkbuegler explained that the downtown redevelopment will cost around 5 million dollars. Although he would be correcting the many flaws of the downtown area. These places would include: streets, sidewalks, areas between buildings, and pedestrian crosswalks.

“I believe the improvements are worth the amount of money because having a nice city is essential for having a happy and safe community,” senior Summer Blankenship said.

As of now The Downtown Redevelopment Task Force plans to meet again on October 5 to start planning on designs and engineering.

“I would like them to discuss where the money will be coming from to make the improvements, and the main issue I would like them to fix is the pedestrian crosswalks,” senior Erin Wadle said.

The finished product for the designing and engineering plans will end around February 2016, and the team designing believes construction will begin around spring of 2016.

“I am very excited for the new development because I go down there all the time, and it will be nice to be in an updated area,” senior Catrina Wilson said.

Many are excited about the redevelopment, but some are a little unsure of how they feel about it at the moment.

“I really like the downtown area how it is now.  There is always room for improvement for anything, but I think that downtown looks fine the way it is” senior Kenzie Blankenship said.
