There are many talented students that walk the halls of Liberty North: all-state football players, track state champions, awarding winning debaters, and very talented theater kids. One very talented student is Markey Mutchler.

Mutchler is a junior here at North, who shows extraordinary photography skills. This last year she competed in a competition put on by the American Birding Association.

“The competition was for kids ten to seventeen years old. Basically you can compete in different modules: illustration, photography, conservation community, and fieldwork. I did illustration and photography,” Mutchler said.

Mutchler worked very long and hard, staring in April all the way through October 2014. She put in many hours of dedication to insure that her illustrations and photos would be award winning material.

“All the illustration work I did were paintings of many different types of birds and for the photos, I just spent time outside photographing nature and birds,” Mutchler said.

All of Mutchler long hours paid off because she was awarded the Young Birder of the Year.

“It was an honor to be awarded this title. It was a really exciting time and I am happy that I got to take part in the competition,” Mutchler said.
