Today’s Eagles, Tomorrow’s Business Leaders

The business experience has come early for some students. Liberty North High School has given students an opportunity to be involved in DECA.

“I love DECA! I really want to pursue a marketing career and DECA is the perfect way to prepare me for my future,” senior Claire Rose said.

In DECA, students get the chance to go meet students from all different schools and states to compete against. While competing they learn how to network with others, and build leadership skills.

“I wanted to go into finance when I was older so I joined DECA. I was hesitant at first but, I ended up learning a lot and really enjoying it,” junior Matt Vocke said.

Everyone can join DECA if they have taken a business class or has had Mrs. Hitner as a teacher. This year, they need twenty more students to be apart of DECA. By having more people involved they can send three people to nationals automatically. An information meeting will be held in September to get more students involved in DECA.

“DECA is one of the best clubs in this school. They are very flexible and the people are great. Everyone should join,” Vocke said.

Last year, DECA had four kids make it to nationals in Orlando Florida. It was a big opportunity to represent Liberty North and they did just that.

“They did amazing and I’m excited to try to make it to nationals this year,” Rose said.

Joining DECA has made students be ready for the real world. Learning to manage business and being in charge of the school store is making these students excited to be apart of the business environment.

“DECA can give you somewhat real life experiences in the business world. It’s a great experience that I recommend for everyone,” Vocke said.
