Spotlight on Mr. Larson

Once a student at Liberty High School, Matt Larson now teaches multiple social studies classes and runs the Guitar Club. He even works in the same place with some of his former teachers, including Ronna Sparks-Woodward and Jennifer Higgins.

“It’s always a pleasure to see my former teachers because they were such great people. I think that overall it is a privilege to work alongside them,” Larson said.

When he was in college, Larson was inspired by many of his professors to become a teacher. He had always been interested in the subject of history, but developed a deeper connection as he went through college at Northwest Missouri State University and Missouri State University. He is currently working on his PHD in history and political science at the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

“I was able to immerse myself in history content, and fell in even deeper love with the subject. I really developed more of a passion towards it. I think that ultimately I can thank my professors for getting me into the subject of teaching,” Larson said.

Ever since he was in middle school, Larson has been playing guitar. He plays with a band at his church, and spends part of his time outside of school playing. Outside of his history class, Larson hosts the Guitar Club during Eagle Hour.

“I love to play guitar, and have been playing for quite a while. It’s always been something I’ve been interested in,” Larson said.
