Liberty North All-District Band Finalists

On Saturday, November 7th, band students from all across the district came to Liberty High School in hopes to be awarded a seat in the All-District Honor Band. The seats per instrument category varied, but each spot was limited and elite. Each student was given a five minute audition in front of an anonymous judge to and performed portions of etudes and scales from the provided packet. Callbacks and results were posted later on in the day. Anyone awarded “All-District” gets to try out for state on December 5th, or anyone awarded the top two chairs in the lower band, The Honorable Mention Band, also gets to try out for state.

I was nervous when I got in there, I was freaking out. I’m glad that I auditioned though because it was a challenge and I get to work with directors and other band members from all over the district,” senior Kaylee Kappler said.

As students prepare for state, they realize that the stakes are much higher. Instead of competing against a hundred other students in your section, you are competing against hundreds of students who are already the most elite in their district.

Stakes are higher for state, so I definitely need to continue to practice,” Kappler said.

Ten Liberty North students were awarded All-District while many others were awarded Honorable Mention. The students will continue to practice and perfect their music as they prepare for the audition of a lifetime.
