A New Face Around School

Liberty North’s teaching staff gained a woman that was eager to come back and teach  high school. Assistant Principal Precious Kurth is starting her journey as Liberty North’s vice principal. Kurth had been working as a vice principal at middle schools, but had always wanted to come back and work with high school students. When the opportunity arose at Liberty North, she jumped at it.

“The students here at Liberty North are respectful, teachers are friendly, everything about Liberty North speaks growth and opportunity,” Kurth said.

Kurth has many duties at North, such as enforcing discipline, coordinating testing, helping counselors, evaluation of teachers, and she has to be able to listen and help out the students.

“I like knowing that I’m making an impact on these kids lives,” Kurth said.

Although Kurth loves being a vice principal, that was not her plan in life growing up. Kurth had a journalism teacher that she loved and wanted to be just like when she was older. Her plans changed when one of her professors told her broadcast journalism was not in her future and she decided she would become a principal.

“I love what I do right now and I am very satisfied with my career, but if I had a chance to do it over, I would have stayed in journalism. With what you love, stick with it and stay with it,” Kurth said.

Away from work, Kurth is married and has one son named Xavier. Xavier and she are very similar; they both went to Lafayette High School and were both presidents of their school. Although her son is very into basketball, Kurth was not into athletics when she was in high school. She was more of a performing arts girl.

“I would always stand on the fence in gym class. Nobody wanted to pick Precious to be on their team,” Kurth said.

In her free time, Kurth visits and watches her son play basketball at Northwest, loves to karaoke to songs like ‘Uptown Girl’ and ‘Rollin on a river’, dance, write and has a huge passion for Hello Kitty.

“She’s my best friend. She just came into my life one day and she is staying there for good,” Kurth said.

Kurth is very excited for this school year and to see what the future holds for her at Liberty North. She loves the building and all the people in it.

“Who wouldn’t want to come to Liberty North?” Kurth said.
