The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

The most crazy, upset filled, heart wrenching, sports event in American sports is less than 20 days away. There is a reason that they call it “March Madness”. If you haven’t been keeping up with the college basketball season so far, I’ll give the quick rundown of how it has gone down so far and what we should expect come tournament time.

Number 1 and 28-0

One team has really separated itself from the pack early and hasn’t looked back. John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats have stormed through everyone in there path, mostly with ease. The SEC conference is down and very weak this year but Kentucky has not taken any teams lightly and dominated all of their opponents. With three games left, there only test looks to be the 18th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, who visit Rupp Arena on Saturday.

The Rest

Kentucky’s success has dwaf the look of the rest of the field, but many teams have kept up with their pace. Teams like Wisconsin, Duke, Virginia, and Gonzaga all look to pose threats in the big dance and make the final four.

The Local Teams

Kansas

Kansas sits on top of the big 12 with a 22-6 and 11-4 in the conference. With that record comes with playing the hard schedule by a big 12 team in 35 years. Kansas has had a good season, but the Jayhawks have struggled to score down low and have started to sputter at the three point line. Having 4 high profile matchup left in the deep and talented Big 12, the Jayhawks cling on to a 1 ½ point lead and look to win their 11th straight Big 12 title.

Missouri

Missouri has suffered deeply in its rebuilding year. With a new coach and a young team, the tigers have stumbled to a 8-20 record. Without any hope at the madness or the NIT, the tiger look to the future and the development of their young guns.

Kansas State

The Wildcats have a very drama packed year. Many young stars on the team have had some beef with Bruce Weber and the coaching staff. This has cause the wildcats to post a 14-15 record and be a team on the bubble team. The Wildcats might have found themselves on Monday as they upset Kansas 70-63.

Wichita State

The Wheat men have had another greats season coming off there 32-2 season as they have put up a 26-3 record and look to be around a 3-4 seed in the big dance. The shockers are a great defensive team, and need to be solid on saturday as they take on conference opponent and #10 ranked Northern Iowa. The whole nation will be watching as College gameday come to break down the high profile match up.
