The Crown Still Fits

Game 4 of the ALDS was a nail biter, for sure. Kansas City Royals were behind most of the game until the 8th inning when we fought hard and got ahead of the game, ending in a 9-6 victory over the Houston Astros. Last night however, all of Kansas City was on the edge of their seats as the Royals made their way onto the field for the ALDS fifth game. The Royals and Astros were tied and this game was the deal breaker; either Kansas City would be heading to the ALCS or ending their post season.

The battle really begun in the top of the 2nd inning when Astros’ Valbueno hit a 2 run homer from starting Royals pitcher Johnny Cueto. This put the Kansas City crowd to silence, but luckily for us, this was the only bad pitch Cueto threw during 8 innings. However, in the bottom of the 4th after Cain got a single, Hosmer hit one straight to Astros centerfielder Carlos Gomez who fell straight to the ground practically handing a run to Cain as he sprinted at 28 MPH to home base.

The runs just kept coming for the Royals in the bottom of the 5th. After Perez’s walk and Gordon’s ground rule double, Rios came in clutch with a double, allowing both Perez and Gordon to earn a run. Zobrist then took one for the team, bunting the ball so Rios would follow through and earn another run, leading the Royals 4-2.

The bottom of the 8th rolls around and Morales, yet again, pulls through and scores a 3 run dinger. 3 runs!! Cueto kept on pitching, very strongly may I add, all through the 8th inning and as he was just under 100 pitches, the Royals switched him out for Wade Davis at the top of the 9th. Which at this point it didn’t really matter because the Royals led 7-2 and the Astros knew it was over. Kauffman Stadium was a sea of blue as the Royals defeated the Astros and KC Pride was shining through.
