Kobe’s Final Run

On Sunday, November 29,  Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant announced on the Players Tribune that he will retire following the 2015-16 season, ending a twenty year career spent entirely in Los Angeles. The world of sports is reacting to the news.

“I believe Kobe has done all the work he could possibly do in the NBA. He has played with great players in basketball, like Michael Jordan, Shaq, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, and more. I believe he has given all he could in the twenty seasons he played,” freshman Unique Creech said.

Bryant is a seventeen time All-Star, four time All-Star Game MVP, two time NBA Finals MVP, and led the Lakers to five NBA titles. He was also the NBA MVP in the 2007-08 season.

“Kobe is the greatest player of our generation. Seeing him retire is something no one thought about until recently. He definitely changed the game,” senior Matt Long said.

Current and former basketball players are expressing well wishes and thanking Bryant for all he gave to the game. Some fans believe he should receive the same treatment baseball icon Derek Jeter received in his final season.

“It’s always sad to see an athlete as special as Kobe say goodbye to the game, but his legacy will last forever. His contributions to basketball are immeasurable,” junior Lizzie Stark said.
