Golden Return

The Golden Girls came out of the 2015 competition season state champions. The girls worked long, hard, grueling hours in order to clean up their routine. Lead by eight seniors that had been on the team for three years prior, the girls went all the way to St. Louis to compete in their state competition. With this great victory came a bittersweet send away to eight of the original Golden Girls. This left half a team worth of spots available for incoming freshman to fill.

“Walking in the first day was very intimidating because I did not know how good everyone was going to be and I also knew that they would have a close bond with each other. I thought it was going to be hard to fit in, but that’s not what it was like at all. Everyone was very welcoming.” Freshman Alaina Lee said.

With the captains of the team leaving, new leadership was spawned amongst a new set of seniors.

“It was not as stressful as I thought it was going to be, but it is a lot of work. It would definitely be a lot harder if I didn’t have such good captains to look up to from previous years.” Senior Rachel Shepard said.

The other girls on the team had to adjust to the drastic change as well.

“All of the returning dancers knew it would be different because we were all used to having all of those seniors step up and be leaders and roll models for us and we had to find a way to do that with the new girls.” Junior Lindsey Downey said.

With the new school year at an open the Golden Girls are hoping for another state champion title even with a new team. They have high hopes for this year and seem to be confident that they can do it again.
