First grade was an experience for everyone in attendance, though it may have been more influential for some than others. But for this artist, elementary school may have been the time that led him on the path to what he is so passionate about today.

“I love Art, I find it calming and relaxing and I love to challenge myself with new art techniques,” Freshman Jae Stover said.

The discovery of art is something that may be different for all those who enjoy it. In this instance, Stover’s specific discovery showed up a bit earlier in life than it did for some.

“That interest began when I was in the 1st grade. I was in scouts and became friends with most of the people. Most of them enjoyed art and I loved watching them draw, so I decided to start improving my art skills and it was one of the only things I enjoyed challenging myself to do,” Stover said.

Often Stover can be found drawing original characters that are created by himself, leaving the style of the piece up to the art itself.

“I have a style that I go for, but it doesn’t really matter because somehow I end up with something completely different,” Stover said.

As for when Stover decided to make art, that’s all up to timing.

“Art is something you can do anywhere and anytime as well. I often am ahead with my classes so i have lots of free time so it’s something I can do at school, at home, or anywhere I’m at,” Stover said.

Although he enjoys what he does, the thing Stover is so passionate about isn’t something he readily shares to the rest of the world around him.

“I don’t really talk about art a lot, I kind of just keep my work to myself,” Stover said.

But not commonly sharing his work with everyone doesn’t mean Stover dislikes the praise he gets.

“I enjoy when people compliment my work. It often takes a lot of time to draw something to perfection, so it really makes my day when somebody shows appreciation and it makes me feel like my time wasn’t wasted, Stover said.

But just because it’s not always something he often talks about, doesn’t mean that art has any less of an impact on the life of Stover, who has a few other new motivations as well besides the challenge.

“I think that art has a huge impact on my life, because it gives me a chance to express myself without having to talk to other people,” Stover said.
