Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FFCLA) is one of the biggest clubs at Liberty North High School. FCCLA is not exclusively at Liberty North; it is a nationwide community.

“We promote being a strong leader and being active in your family and community at a local and national level,” FCCLA Sponsor Jody Fowler said.

Many students get involved in clubs in high school to better their high school experience, while others join to help them in the future.

“FCCLA will help members in the future because it pushes them out of their comfort zone and teaches them responsibility. Also it helps them try to make a difference in their world,” Fowler said.

Members of FCCLA get involved in one of four committees, which includes Operation Positive, Community Service, fundraising, and a social committee. After joining a committee, members decide which projects they want to get involved in.

“My favorite project in FCCLA is STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition), which is a competition. I am doing clothing construction, and I am currently making a dress to present to a panel of judges,” Sophomore Holly Liebel said.

FCCLA is known for its STAR Events and members work towards the competition throughout the year.

“My favorite memory is when me and Josh Armenta competed for STAR Events regionals. It was our first time and we learned a lot,” Senior Billy Glenski said.

STAR Events is one of the projects members work hard to accomplish.

“My favorite project was Alex’s Lemonade Stand for childhood cancer. We raised a lot of money and we reached our goal,” Junior Montana Grizzle said.

Through the club members take part in many different types of community projects. They not only gain a sense of bettering their community, they build their leadership and communicational skills.

“I want to become a better leader and someone that others can look up to,” Billy Glenski said.
