Track & Field Conference Meet

The Eagles track and field team has had an eventful season. Through championships, injuries, crazy weather, and more the team has fought to keep improving. The team started off the post season competing in the KC Suburban Blue Conference meet last week.

“Conference is our first big meet of the year, it is our first chance to compete for something real. We prepare all season long for meets like this, and in the end I think it really paid off,” sophomore Kailee Knudsen said.

Top finishers on the girls team include Jennifer LeHew in pole vault, Sammy Laurenzo in the 1600, Eka Jose in triple jump, Courtney Matney in discus and shot put, and Stephanie Boan in the 3200. All four relay teams finished in the top four as well.

“I am very happy with the way conference went. I think the team worked really hard and we managed to score points in a lot of different events. I’m excited to see what our team can do in the upcoming meets,” junior Stephanie Boan said.

On the boys side, top finishers include Charlton Miller in the 100 and 200, Stephen Lehnardt in the discus, Ty Hughes in the 1600 and 3200, Terrence Williams in triple jump, Terry Lee in the 400, Andrew Madison in the 300 hurdles, Brandon Drew in the 800, Jaylend Simmons in the shot put, and Cam Stenner in pole vault. All four relay teams finished in the top three as well.

“We have been working hard for a long time and the results really showed at conference. I think we have a really good shot at districts,” sophomore Brandon Drew said.

The track and field conference meet was one with many school records, gold medals, and PR’s. The girls team finished overall in 4th and the boys finished overall in 2nd.
