THE BEST OF THE WEST?

THE WEST’S BEST?

During the last couple of weeks, what was once the loudest stadium in the NFL has turned into a dull murmur. The fans that filled blogs with rambling, brought earthquake level noise, and wore their memorabilia with pride, have been distinguished quicker then a lit birthday cake. It is the Kansas City Chiefs whose fans have been cautiously unoptimistic, and have had just about enough with the home teams play.
The entire summer of 2012, Chiefs blogs would be updated every five minutes with some kind of optimism or chatter about how great the Chiefs are going to be this season. The Chiefs had one of the best turnouts in the history of summer training camp at St. Joseph Missouri, and many experts were picking the Chiefs to win the AFC West division, even with some stiff competition from the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers. The Chiefs had brought in new players and were able to get key players that were injured last year back to the team, so hope was everywhere you looked.
Now roll the clock forward into the month of August, where this highly touted team got dominated in three of their four pre-season football games. The highly touted team’s two star members of their secondary were injured in the preseason. The highly touted team’s first game was nothing less then a blow out loss, where very few players looked ready to play. All of these events created a negative spin for a team that once had everything going their way, leading to one giant step back for the team and fans.
I am an avid Chiefs fan, but we must be real in evaluating this situation. The Chief’s fan morale has plummeted, and the team is not showing many signs of improving from their rough start to their season. The last couple of weeks have not been great for the Kansas City Chief’s and its fans. Expectations are still high, but they are much less then what they have been earlier in the year.
