Student Coucil

It’s that time of year again when high school student get excited for the premiere event of the season: Homecoming. But this is another first for Liberty North students–it is the first year that the school will have returning alumni come back for the game and Pomp Night. A community event where current, future, and now former Eagles can come together and celebrate their school, Pomp Night will be held on Thursday, October 11. Student Council is working to make Pomp Night the best one yet for the first alumni’s return.
Pomp Night is a carnival that the student council puts on for the Liberty community to come and join the school as students prepare for Homecoming. All ages are welcomed and most of the games and events are free of charge.
“We are trying to get more groups involved in the production and make it a larger scale,” senior Student Council Executive President Parker Summers said. Student Council has a new direction in store for the night this year.
To do this, Student Council has created a brand new class called Practical Leadership.
“It is the first time this year that student leaders are working and developing leadership skills in class for different projects such as planning for Pomp Night,” Student Council sponsor Lindsey Plaster said.
This class allows the members of Student Council to develop their plans for different school events, including dances and other student activities.
“Practical Leadership was developed to give students the opportunity to focus daily on the development of their leadership skills,” Plaster said.
Student Council focuses on mastering leadership skills. However, in the past they were only given certain times to work on those skills. With the creation of the Practical Leadership class, it gives the members a chance to excel in the area of leadership.
“A student who takes math daily performs better than if they only practice once a week. The same is true for developing leadership skills—it is a learned habit,” Plaster said.
There will be many new things for the week, including the first homecoming assembly in the Fieldhouse with the Sports Marketing class in charge of the technology, the returning of last year’s Homecoming King and Queen at the football game, and a horse drawn carriage for the court on Pomp Night.
