Roaming Unfamiliar Faces

Roaming Unfamiliar Faces

Many unfamiliar faces roamed the halls of Liberty North on Friday March 8, 2013.  Student Council participated in an exchange with Lathrop High School in Lathrop, Missouri, and Lathrop students were able to spend the day with a North student.

“The day was a lot of fun.  The girls I spend my time with experienced a little bit of a culture shock, but other than that they really enjoyed the experience,” senior Hallie Sallee said.

The difference between Liberty North and Lathrop is pretty dramatic.  North’s senior class is approximately 230 students, compared to Lathrop’s 60.  The students who attend Lathrop have many advantages, such as choosing specific teachers for classes, because the school population is so small.

“The Lathrop students looked like kids in a candy shop all day long.   The transition from a two hallway school, 200 kids in the entire school, and a gravel parking lot to our school is quite the change,” senior Parker Summers said.

Although the students were in a very different environment, they were very social and made it a great day at Liberty North.

“All of the students I encountered were really social, which surprised me because our school is so different.  There are more students roaming the halls during our passing periods than the Lathrop students would ever see at their school,” junior Katelynn Downey said.

The Student Council exchange was a great experience for Lathrop students to see what it is like at a bigger school, and also for North students to hear about what it is like at a smaller school.

“I am really jealous of their “Drive Your Tractor to School” spirit day,” Summers said.
