Q&A with Chinese teacher Shainguu Hsieh

Where were you born?

Mr. Shainguu Hsieh:  I was born in Taiwan.  Both of my parents were born in Mainland China.

Where did you go to school?

Hsieh: I came to America was I was halfway through 8th grade. I went to high school in Johnson County, KS.  For college and graduate school I went to the University of Kansas.

Are you teaching your kids Chinese?

Hsieh: Yes, I have a three-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son. I speak only Chinese at home, so they are raised bilingual.  Their mother is Caucasian and she can only speak English, she is picking up a little bit of Chinese here and there.

Why do you like teaching?

Hsieh: Teaching is one way that I thought I could make a difference.  It is a great job, and I also enjoy working with kids.

What are your hobbies?

Hsieh: I like to run and I like to read. I like to swim and I like to make money, well I like to save and invest.
