After the system-shock that occurred when 800+ new students were shoved into both Liberty and Liberty North High School, the students of both high schools are in for yet another big change.
“We are implementing laptops at the high schools to help better prepare students for life after high school, regardless of what path they take. Technology is becoming more and more integrated in everything we do, and we want to do everything we can to help students be comfortable with technology and help them learn how to use it appropriately,” Director of Technology Mr. Trey Katzer said.
The Mac laptops will be deployed starting on September 3, with the seniors, September 4 for juniors, September 5 for sophomores, and ending on September 6with freshmen. Both high schools will be assigning the laptops during advisory on the corresponding day for each grade. Students at Liberty North should meet in the Fieldhouse to receive their laptop before reporting to advisory, while Liberty High School will distribute theirs in Advisory. Although this is a big change coming to the district, this 1:1 transition will impact each student’s learning.
“I think the computers will be helpful. They will help with most school projects and assignments, especially in English classes,” Senior Alex Jones said.
For Liberty Public School District, many changes have been implemented just this school year. In addition to the computers, freshmen have moved into the high schools and several trailers and teachers have been added to provide room for the new students. Even though change can often be perceived negatively, these changes are receiving nothing but positive thoughts from the faculty.
“The laptops will be really good at teaching students how to handle more real-life situations. They will also allow for more complex work to be done instead of the simplistic work normally done on paper,” Math teacher Mark Warner said.
