Live Like You Were Dying

I can’t help but flash back to November 13, 2012. Windows down in my car, music up so high until your ears would bleed, and a phone going off left and right in my lap. My mom was trying to get hold of me, sending me texts, calling me multiple times and finally got sick of me not answering and left a voice mail. When my phone wouldn’t shut up from being so full I went to unlock it and BAM! Hello… crabby lady’s back bumper!  The car wreck that changed my night and my year all started with those texts.

My mom’s voicemail only had three words that stuck out to me: Grandma, and Pancreatic Cancer. My grandmother would have pancreatic cancer and we found out it would be terminal October 25, 2013. Now that was some harsh news for me. With college on my mind and high school happening right now, I had no idea how to take it all. However, many people told me how, including some songs. Cheesy I know but, helpful to me in a sticky situation.

“He said: I was in my early forties, with a lot of life before me, an’ a moment came that stopped me on a dime. I spent most of the next days, looking at the x-rays, an’ talking ’bout the options an’ talkin’ ‘bout sweet time. I asked him when it sank in, that this might really be the real end? How’s it hit you when you get that kind of news? Man whatcha do?” Tim McGraw singer and songwriter said.  That song Live Like You Were Dying got me through every thing.  I saw the cancer in a whole new way. My grandmother was no longer sick to me anymore she was just leaving early. She had time with us, not a ton but, enough. My grandmother got to see birthdays from everyone, graduations, granddaughters going off to college and even one having a baby. She had accomplished her goal in life, to see others live theirs.
