Katy Perry Makes an Uproar

Fans are going to cause an uproar when Katy Perry releases her new album “Prism” on October 22. 2013. Perry’s new single “Roar” has definitely done an efficient job getting fans excited for her new album. A Perry fan myself, I have to say that she did a fantastic job protecting her image, keeping it clean and catchy, which is refreshing considering the latest chart toppers, such as Miley Cyrus’s “We can’t stop”. Perry decided to take the road of classy instead of trashy for this single, and my hope is that the rest of the album follows through with the vibe.

The lyrics in “Roar” are very relatable. Being a girl, the songs talks about how she’s an independent woman going to stand up for herself; that she’s going to fight for her respect and leave the disrespectful man. Though the song could be interpreted differently, especially from the male public, by saying to stand up for yourself and not let anyone push you around, be your own leader and don’t always do what everyone tells you to. Which again, is a strong building block for this new album.

Perry, who helped direct the music video, should give herself a pat on the back. It is a little cheesy, but it has a good atmosphere and is very clever. No sexual references, completely family appropriate and a great way to set up fans for the new album. If I could rate the song and video all together, it’s an eight out of ten from me.
