Senior Column: David Roelofsz

Goodbye, childhood.

Men and women, boys and girls, It is time for me to say goodbye. Peace. Deuces. Later. See ya. Sayonara. Hang loose. Liberty North, you’ve been kind to me. As I reflect on the years past, and the year soon to pass, I Just want to thank a few people.

Jaime Jacob, thanks for teaching me to love math. “C as in Kitty” never got old, and hopefully you won’t either. You were the teacher I didn’t want to like, but you became my favorite. Stay the way you are.

Brian Hartman, lets face it. You’re me from the future, and that’s why it’s hard for us to get along sometimes. Thanks for helping me think a little more rationally before I went to the JLab without your consent. It helped me mature in rational thinking outside of the classroom. I also greatly appreciate your help with band and choir. You’re the coolest of choir/band teachers.

Shane Fuller, don’t be too upset by that last comment. You made me the drummer I am today, and I have boundless gratitude to you. You pushed me when I didn’t want to be pushed, and you brought me success through music. (A few more, readers, I promise.)

David Young, you are a madman. How you put up with 50 noisy students nonstop for 3 months is incredible. You have an excellent amount of patience. You are wonderful, and you’ve taught me lessons from respect of authority, to organization, to patience and reason in trying scenarios. You’ve aided a burn of mine, and you always reluctantly let me use your toilet. Thank you times 100.

Last but certainly not least, Mary Coogan, thank you so much for making biology the most interesting class I took in high school. I still remember when I walked in and you talked about monocots and dicots, and I was sold. You made it a challenge, but you were wonderful. I plan to major in biological sciences next year at UMKC, and you’re a large chunk of the reason why.

Kids, love high school, because before you can say, “I’m graduating soon”, your tassel will have already moved sides on your cap. As far I’m concerned, I’m excited to start a new chapter in hopes of becoming a doctor. I’ve always wanted to help people, and now is my chance; and so, like I said before, goodbye. Peace. Deuces. Later. See ya. Sayonara. Hang loose.
