When I turned eighteen a little over a month ago, the first thing I thought about was buying a lottery ticket, and the last thing on my mind was voting. Now that the time to vote is finally here, I was much more anxious than I expected to be.
The clock struck 2:50 and I was out the door, off to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church to cast my vote. As I pulled up, there wasn’t a line of people coming out of the door, or anything crazy that I had heard people talk about; that was a relief. I walked inside and was a little overwhelmed by all of the different tables and booths, so I walked up to the first friendly face I saw to ask for directions. Of course, I went in on the wrong side. Finally, I found where I needed to be and received my abnormally large green ballot. I sat down at a table to fill out the ballot. Not only was it much bigger than I had expected, it was much longer too. Once I was finished, I took it to the drop box and picked up my “I Voted” sticker and proudly stuck it on my shirt.
My experience as a first time voter was much more exciting than I expected. I was very anxious to see what it was like, but once I got there I did get a little nervous. The process was very easy and everyone around was helpful. Now that I have cast my vote, I am looking forward for the next election in 2016.
