Facebook is a major part of our lives, but Google + may be changing all of that soon. Many have heard, but few really know what it is. Is it just another thing to add to our social networking lives, or is it a silent revolution, changing the way we communicate yet again.
To understand how significant it is, look back with me to 2006. Facebook opens its membership to high school students. At the time, those of this generation were still using IM and MySpace. Hard to believe, right? These archaic technologies, using horrible design features, and loose communication were the center of our communication. Facebook changed it, and made it simpler. But, it didn’t come with ease. People were afraid of change, and said they liked how MySpace worked, and all of their friends were there.
“I remember using MySpace, and when I started using Facebook, it was very confusing at first” said Rachel Loveall, Senior.
Now come back to today. Google + changes the way we can communicate again, and address many of the privacy issues that many people have complained that Facebook never fixed. Even going as far as group video chat up to 10 people, and group text messages to even nonmembers of the site, all in a beautiful design that is easy and familiar.
From even those advancements over Facebook, people are still doing the same thing: Leery to change and not wanting to “leave their friends”, when this could make their communication with friends fresh and even easier.
MySpace wasn’t the first huge hit to grow and die, and they definitely won’t be the last. Facebook still is the populated. Then again, MySpace was that way when Facebook started.
