Coming into this season, ESPN ranked the Kansas City Chiefs as the 19th best team in the NFL. With new quarterback, Alex Smith and new head coach, Andy Reid, there was hope for this Chiefs team, but very few actually gave the Chiefs a chance for any shot at the postseason.
After the Chiefs beat the worst team in the league, the Jacksonville Jaguars, very little changed. Chiefs fans knew that they had a better team than last season, but that was about it. Very few actually believed that the Chiefs had much of a chance in week two against the Dallas Cowboys.
Finally, Sunday came. The Chiefs and Cowboys battled till the very end, and when everybody looked up at the final scoreboard it said, “Chiefs- 17, Cowboys- 16.” The Chiefs escaped their home opener with a win and immediately had to look forward to their Thursday night matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The game against Philadelphia was not just a typical game. It was the first time that Andy Reid would have to face the team that he coached for 14 years. Not only that, the Chiefs had just three days to prepare for a very good team.
All eyes were on Reid as the game went on. He received a monstrous applause from the City of Brotherly Love as he came out onto the field for pregame. At halftime, his quarterback of 11 years, Donovan McNabb, got his jersey number retired.
Luckily for the Chiefs, the Eagles committed five turnovers throughout the game. These forced turnovers cost the Eagles lots of points and Kansas City took advantage. The Chiefs ended up winning the game 26-16 and once again they surprised the world.
Going into week four, the Chiefs are 3-0 for the eighth time in franchise history. The last time the Chiefs went 3-0 was 2010. 2010 was also the last time Kansas City made the playoffs and now ESPN has the Chiefs as the eighth best team in the NFL.
In just three weeks, with the help of Andy Reid and Alex Smith, the Chiefs have changed the opinions of not just Kansas City fans, but also NFL experts from all over the world. This Chiefs team did not just get lucky three games in a row. Kansas City has some real talent and has a pretty good chance at making their record 4-0 this weekend.
