Bad Blood, Good Music

Turning on any radio station, the popular song, Pompeii, is bound to come on. It’s one of Bastille’s more popular songs. As for their other songs, I had not heard of most of them until recently, but this band has captured my heart. Bastille is a British alternative rock band. Most of their songs have a similar tune to it, and we have the spectacular lead singer Dan Smith to blame for that. This being Bastille’s only studio released album, they are number nineteen on the iTunes’ most popular albums, and the song Pompeii is number thirteen.

The band first released “Flaws” and “Icarus” back in 2011 as their first debut singles. “Icarus” is completely the start of their sound. Like I previously said, all their songs have a similar sound to them. “Flaws” has a bit of a different tune to it. It has different instrumental sound to it with computerized sounds that fit in perfectly with the beat. One exception to their sound is “Oblivion,” which is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. It has a different feel to it. It sounds different than the rest of the album. It is softer and has a lighter feeling to it. There are some very high notes and beautiful instrumental parts with a soft sound to it.

All of their songs are quite catchy, but “Weight of Living PT. ll” is probably my least favorite. It’s just not one of those songs that you can listen to over and over again without getting tired of hearing it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good song and I love the lyrics but the repetitiveness of the song just isn’t as catchy as the others. The band overall has caught my heart and probably many others too.
