With endless amounts of scissors, glue, and bottles of painted strewn across the art room, the art club at Liberty North has to work twice has hard to keep their club going. Art Club was created for students to get an extra opportunity at making pieces of art that differ from what the students in art classes make.
“I joined art club because I couldn’t fit an art class into my schedule like I want to, so I joined this club as my way of fitting some art into my day,” sophomore Chelsea Douglas said.
While the main purpose of Art Club is to have fun creating pieces of art that the students can be proud of and have fun while doing so, the students work on projects that most students could not imagine creating.
“Sometimes we make things out of reusable materials. We have random small contests, like a pumpkin carving contest, and we make things like wire sculptures and found object sculptures. My favorite part is making cool, different projects and getting to take them home and try things out at home” junior Abby Ranes said.
Art Club meets only once a week, which can make creating the projects more difficult when they have to wait a full week to work on them again. The students work on one project per week, except for the occasional project that takes two weeks to finish and perfect. Their artwork may be displayed or taken home for them to work on even further or recreate their own version of the project.
“I love art club because you get to create even more art after school than just what you get to do in school, and there is something really fun about that,” junior Le’Marc Cooper said.
