A Weekend at Tantara

Right after returning from Washington DC and playing for the President, part of the band traveled to Tantara from Thursday to Sunday.

“Tantara is a resort down at the Lake of the Ozarks. It is a giant convention for band directors and All-State band players. I was a part of the All-State percussion band, and I had a lot of fun there,” sophomore Matt Hudson said.

Tantara is a huge gathering of band members. At the end of Tantara, the players perform in a concert.

“In the All-State band there was about a 100 people, and a total of 300 participants when including the other bands. The All-State band was great. We had a song commissioned just for Tantara, and we performed it really well at the concert,” senior Richard Adger said.

Band members not only learn a lot from other All-State players, but they also make friends and have a great time.

“My favorite part was being able to perform with a lot of other great musicans,” Adger said.

Although there are hundreds of participants in Tantara, the convention can be very selective.

“Tantara was hard to get in. They only take the two best percussionists, and I was the first. Next year I will probably prepare the same as I did this year. I will work just as hard and I think I will do fine,” Hudson said.

The members from the Screaming Eagles band are extremely happy with how they did at Tantara. They have already starting to work hard and prepare for next years event.
