A Hard Fall With Hope

A Hard Fall With Hope

The Eagles football team had their hearts and minds set on making it to the play offs.  Throughout the day on Thursday October 27, 2011, the guys were getting pumped up to play a great game against the Kearney Bulldogs.  In order to make the play offs, the Eagles needed to beat the Bulldogs by at least eight points.  Unfortunately that did not happen.

“It was hard to watch.  You want the team to win so bad and when they don’t, it just hurts.  You have to feel for them because they go out day after day and bust their butts,” junior Jase Willhite said.

The beginning of the game started off really well and the Eagles had control over the game.  By the end of the first quarter, the score was tied 0-0.  The defense was looking great.  Shortly into the second quarter, Kearney scored.

“It sucked when they scored but we knew it was a long game and we could come back,” senior Austin Haywood said.

At half time, Kearney had scored twice making the score 0-19.

“At half time we just wanted to leave it all on the field with no regrets,”  Haywood said.

The Eagles did just that.  After a fight, the final score was 7-33.  The Eagles’ hearts and minds were crushed but there was still hope to make it to the play offs.  If Excelsior Springs beat Smithville on Friday October 28, 2011. then the Eagles would make it into the play offs.  It was not expected at all but Excelsior did indeed upset Smithville with a final score of 20-12.

“I was sitting in the movie theatre when I found out we made the play offs.  I got so excited that we have a new life and get to continue our season,” sophomore Paul Silvio said.

The Eagles football team is in the play offs.  Come out and cheer the team on against the Savannah Savages on Wednesday November 2, 2011 at Savannah High School.
