Three hundred’s a crowd

A plethora of students from multiple levels of the food chain stood in front of the entrance of the science wing and chattered about their day so far; how much they hated their third hour teacher, or about how weird the person they sat next to in their fourth hour was. However, this chance for socialization came at a price for the students desperate to get to their classes early or even on time; the massive group of students created a blockade, increasing the time students had to spend making their way through the crowd.

“I absolutely hate how the hallway is crowded between classes,” sophomore Keegan Sharp said. “I just want to take my tuba and charge through there. It takes two minutes just to get through the crowd; being a sophomore and realizing I’ll have to deal with that for the next two years is just a pain.”

Some of the seniors who have dealt with this blockage for almost three years have learned to deal with the blockage and even found some enjoyment in pushing the crowd out of the way.

“It’s not necessarily that they block the whole hallway, it’s that they block the most important part of it,” senior Josh Brooks said. “I think there should be a rule not necessarily against standing and talking, but a rule against blocking the main hallway. Personally, I do like pushing the people out of my way though, but I would prefer if they would move.”

With the arrival of approximately 300 sophomores, the crowd had increased in size, causing more shoving and complaints; however, the members of the still growing crowd still persevere, that break between classes vital to their day-to-day functions.

“Being able to talk in the hallway gives you a little break from all the school work to just laugh and be silly with your friends,” senior Kaitlyn Vansel said. “If I wasn’t allowed to stand and talk in the hallway, I would probably be a lot more stressed out because I wouldn’t have any time to relax between classes.”
