The Royal Court and Coronation

Setting traditions for Liberty North’s annual Homecoming week hasn’t been easy. From the themes and spirit days, to Pomp it up night and the crowning of the Homecoming Court, there are many things yet to be set and stone. Other high schools such as Liberty High School have a tradition they follow, where we are building our own.

In the past school year, our main focus during Homecoming week was to build our Homecoming tradition. We started off with Spirit Days, Pomp it up night and the crowning of Mr. Eagle and Miss Pride. But this year, it’s going to be a little different.

“Our Senior class nominated the Homecoming Court this year. Most High Schools do it this way, where at Liberty, seniors who are interested get to apply. Our seniors got to narrow it down to the students they thought should be honored”, said Social Studies and Student Council Adviser Lindsey Plaster. “We wanted our senior class to honor their classmates through nomination instead of just getting a couple of choices”, Plaster said.

Although we may have done our nomination of our homecoming court differently, most seniors are accepting and liking the changes.

“The feedback has been great. A lot of kids said they enjoyed the way we did things this year, and they really liked getting to participate in the nomination process”, Plaster said.

The senior class of Liberty North isn’t the only class who gets to participate in the nomination
process. The entire school will vote during the week of homecoming. “It makes the nomination process a lot more fair to the whole student body”, Plaster said.

The second annual Homecoming plans are underway and are expected to bring great things.  It is time to be thinking of who deserves to be the first ever Homecoming King and Queen of Liberty North.
