Sky Zone: Bouncing high above the competition

Sky Zone: Bouncing high above the competition

What I am about to write might seem weird for an 18 year old high school senior to say, but up until recently I never realized how fun a room full of trampolines can be. My newspaper staff recently took a trip to Sky Zone, located in Shawnee, Kansas.  It features a jumping area where the walls and floor are completely made of trampolines. This allowed me to activate my creative side as I jumped around foaming at the mouth at all the trick possibilities at my disposal.

The Free jump was just the first of many things we experienced at Sky Zone. This featured a wide open area of trampolines that allowed people just to let loose and have fun bouncing around a variety of trampolines. It also allowed some of the staff members to relive their gymnastics days as they were able to do a variety of flips, toe touches, and a variety of other tricks.

Sky Zone isn’t just about letting people jump for joy; it is also a place where people are able to live out their athletic dreams as they featured three basketball hoops at three varying heights that allowed a normal person to feel the rush of being able to perform a slam-dunk. Though the trampolines add a boost to a person’s jumping ability, I quickly learned Sky Zone does not possess the ability to turn a six foot uncoordinated kid into LeBron James. Though I failed miserably, the opportunity was one full of laughs.

Not to be beat, Sky Zone featured a seemingly harmless but daunting workout. People take turns jumping into a pit full of foam squares but surprisingly jumping in was the easiest part. Getting out was quite a challenge as you found yourself submerged underneath ton of foam that was not about to let you escape easily. It was a real surprise to me as I was able to have a lot of fun and also get a good workout.

Last, but not least, Sky Zone added an interesting twist to an American pastime: dodge ball. This seemingly intense sport on regular ground has people shaking in fear but when you throw in a trampoline floor, all rules are out and it instantly becomes an anything goes enjoyable experience. Dodge ball truly brought out the best of people and was a great activity for all to enjoy.

Overall Sky Zone is a hidden treasure that more people need to experience. It is very affordable at $9 for 30 minutes, and  $13 for an hour. Also they offer a variety of party and group rates that could be a fun option for a great team building activity or a inexpensive but fun birthday party. If you have the opportunity to go experience this unique place, I highly suggest you go; it promises to be an experience that will leave you jumping for joy. Sky Zone is a great source of entertainment for people of all ages, including a group of 25 high school students.
