This Friday the school is having their second annual blood drive. The blood drive is being put on by the Medical Interventions and AP Biology classes taught by Mrs. Coogan and Mrs. Williams. The students have been vigorously working to have a successful blood drive since the middle of September.

   The event will be held on the fieldhouse and students can go to give blood at any time during the day. Students wanting to donate have to meet certain qualifications. They need to be at least 115 pounds and must be 16 years of age. The classes need any help they can get to reach their goal. They have set a goal of 186 units of blood, but every donation helps.

   For students wanting to donate blood there are a few steps that should be  taken to get ready to donate. Students should get a good night sleep the night before. They should avoid rich, fatty foods, and make sure to stay hydrated the days prior to their donation. Along with avoiding fatty foods, one should still make sure to eat. They should eat a healthy meal that gives proper nutrients. Students should especially remember to relax, stressing out about the donation will only make it harder for a person. Immediately following the donation students should get a healthy snack and begin drinking more water, continuing to stay hydrated to replenish any fluids lost during the donation. One should avoid strenuous activity and heavy-lifting after donating.

   The goal the classes have set is to donate 186 units of blood and with what has already been donated they believe they will meet their goal. The blood will all stay in our community and will be used to help people in our area. Donating brings a great feeling to anyone; it could help save a life. Help the AP Biology and Medical interventions reach their goal and increase the overall health for the people in the community.
