With winter just around the corner and with a lot of new drivers on the road, here are a few helpful tips to stay safe on the road.

1)   Avoid unnecessary driving.

2)   When it is icy or snowy, pump your breaks when coming to a stop.

3)   If you do start to slide, shift the car into neutral.

4)   If the back end of your car starts to slide, steer into the direction the car is sliding.

5)   During the winter carry a shovel, kitty litter, and candle with a melt can for heat if your car gets stuck at night.

6)   Always carry jumper cables.

7)   Make sure you have good tread on your tires for the winter.

8)    Always carry safety flares.

9)   Don’t let your gas tank get empty.

10)  Always carry water, food, a blanket, and a coat.
