Raging Winter Equals Raging Students

When talk about having snow days hit the halls of Liberty North, both students and teachers become giddy and restless with the thought of a free day off of school. Snow days to high school students mean no homework, extra sleep, and a whole day to do literally anything. However, last week when a storm was brewing, so were rumors. The storm we had expected was far less than what the weatherman was calling for.  As students woke, and peeped out the window, there was no snow on the ground, and we all knew what that meant- we had school. Students had gotten caught up in what their classmates were saying, instead of watching what the REAL weatherman had to say.

This time around, the storm could be the real deal. Coming from the southwest corner of the country, and an estimated 6-10 inches of snow, followed up with sleet and other wintery goodness, students here at liberty north couldn’t be more excited.

“I think if we have a snow day tomorrow, it would be amazing, because that means we would have more sleep, and me being a senior, it doesn’t affect me. If we don’t have one, I’m going to be mad because of all they hype, and I would probably have my own snow day even if the school didn’t” senior Myron Powell said.

Though seniors don’t have to make up these upcoming snow days, there are many underclassmen with their own opinions.

“I would be happy if we had a snow day. They sound good now, but won’t be as exciting when I’m making them up at the end of the year. But it’s a free day that we can get out of school and not have to worry about anything. If I did have to come to school, I would be kind of mad because the weathermen have been talking about this for the whole week, and getting our hopes up, so it wouldn’t be so fun to come after everything that everyone has said about the “storm”, sophomore Shelby King said.

Aside from everybody’s excited opinions, there are many pro’s and con’s to having a snow day.

“I think if we have a snow day tomorrow, there will be pro’s and con’s. A pro is having the day off, and a con will be having to come to school after Memorial Day”, Math teacher Jason Agee said.

Each day there is a snow day, is another day added onto the school year, which students may or may not agree with. Snow days or not, the tentative last day of school has been moved back to May 28, after Memorial Day. While students love the snow days now, the love for them won’t be present when the time comes to make the up.
