That’s the idea a group of girls came up with when they created Operation Beautiful. ‘Transforming the way you see yourself one post-it note at a time’ is their motto, and the uplifting words they write on a simple piece of paper can change your outlook of the day.
“I think it’s really awesome! I know it would make me happy if I found notes like that everywhere…The world needs a little bit more love,” junior Hallie Sallee said.
The sticky-notes have been spotted on lockers around school, on bathroom mirrors, in movie theaters and stuck to people’s binders. They usually say things like ‘You’re beautiful’ or just any kind expression that gives people a few brief seconds to feel better about themselves.
Senior Alex Flanagan said, “Just the other day, my friend and I were talking about how much we liked it. All the ones I’ve seen are on lockers and say things like ‘you’re amazing’ and ‘you’re smart’. Everyone loves a little pick-me-up here and there!”
The purpose of Operation Beautiful is to make people feel better about themselves, even if it’s just one sticky-note at a time. Seeing reassuring quotes in random places can change your day, even if it’s not going so great.
When asked if seeing the notes around made them want to do the same for others, everyone responded positively.
“Yes! I think it’s so sweet, there’s so much hate and gossip and drama around school but not even half as much good things going on…it really makes me want to make others feel awesome too,” Sallee said.
Even if someone has not heard of Operation Beautiful, they can join the campaign in the easiest way. Think of an encouraging phrase or sentence, write it on a post-it note, and stick it on the wall going into the bathroom, the doorframe of a classroom, anywhere creative where a lot of people will see. Think of the way it will make someone feel when they see it.
Sophomore Alex Tegeler said, “I think it’s a great way to raise people’s confidence.”
If something simple like that can change a person’s day, why not join in?
