For Christian Athletes, better known as FCA, is an evolving club at North. With numbers ranging from 50 to 75 attendees at each meeting, it is expanding to impact the lives of many students.
“High school is a time where students are constantly growing and learning how to be the best version of themselves. It is extremely fun to see them come together to explore, question, interact, and have fun with their faith in God,” teacher and co-sponsor Ryan Sprugel said.
Members in the club have expressed appreciation for the discussions that take place during the meetings.
“I came into being on the executive team with the idea that it was just to help others grow closer to God, but I was surprised to find that I got to grow a lot in the process as well,” sophomore executive leader Rudo Nziramasanga said.
The group collaboration has been described as creating a facilitating place for individual growth along with the group’s progress as a whole.
“My main goal for this club is to create an environment that all students look forward to being a part of every week. It would be awesome if our number of students continued to grow,” Sprugel said.
The meetings take place every Wednesday morning at 7:30 in room #317. This location is expected to change soon, moving to the learning stairs, based on the increasing number of members.
“I love the community and how I can find a sense of belonging. I’m able to connect, have open conversations, and build relationships based on how Jesus has worked in our lives,” sophomore Coralyn Young said.
This club provides a sense of comfort to many students, and the members try not to take the time that they spend together for granted.
“My favorite part about FCA is getting to spend time in the Word and talking about Jesus with one another at school, which not many people get to do. I love how it’s always a space where I feel welcomed, loved, and not judged,” senior executive leader Lucy Oshel said.
Despite what the name may suggest, you do not have to be a Christian or an athlete to join FCA. All students may join regardless of their prior knowledge.
“We welcome all students wherever they are in their faith journey. Plus, we have donuts at every meeting, so what could be a better start to your day than that?” Sprugel said.
