New Daddy

Skylor Hidy is a senior at Liberty North High School who thought he had everything figured out early on in life. Turns out, he was wrong. When Skylor turned thirteen, his mom and dad sat him down and told him he was adopted by his dad, Scott, when he was a year and a half old. His mom is his biological mother, but the twist is his dad is no longer his biological dad. Now he is only a stepfather.

“I was confused by it all at first. Eventually I figured it out though and just wanted to find my real father,” Hidy said.

His mother, on the other hand, was not thrilled by the idea and told Skylor to wait until he turned 18.

“Within the first month of me turning 18 I went searching. Turns out that my dad was looking for me too,” Hidy said.

Skylor’s real father contacted Skylor’s mother on April 5 to set up a dinner to see his son. Skylor’s mother agreed but wanted to meet with him first. A few hours late, after a long conversation, his mother agreed to let him meet his biological dad.

“I walked in and there he was. He stood up and I just thought to myself how much he looked like me. He shook my hand and it was a realization. It’s really happening to me,” Hidy said.

Hidy and his father talked for a while about his life and when Hidy brought up that he was working to get a car his father offered him one of his. Hidy at first could not accept this gracious offer but his father would not back down.

“I couldn’t say no anymore. I received a car and a dad, now I have a half brother who is 24 and hopefully a great future with them both. I’m so thankful for this experience,” Hidy said.
