This year, Liberty North Theater Department has chosen Mean Girls to be the fall musical. Mean Girls was originally a movie, but then became a Broadway adaptation. The Mean Girls plot consists of the main character, Cady, moving to a new school and trying to make friends. She ends up falling into the “plastics” that consists of Regina, Gretchen, and Karen. Cady tries to plot the demise of Regina but ends up creating her own problems. When talking to some of the LNHS cast members, they sounded very enthusiastic about this year’s show.
“Yes, I think it is a very good option for Liberty North’s Fall musical because we have such a large theater program, and it is a very fun musical and has a good message,” said junior Olivia Grow.
Grow is playing Karen Smith in this year’s musical. Another cast member is Kylee Johnson, who will be playing Caitlyn Causin in the show.
“My favorite part of being in the musical is definitely the dances. Being on stage and getting to dance and act on stage with my friends is so much fun,” said junior Kylee Johnson.
Being in theater requires students to not only memorize lines, but also partake in hair, makeup, and even dance.
“My favorite part is definitely doing hair and makeup. I love getting ready with my friends and all the steps that go into prepping the show,” said Grow.
Another great aspect of Mean Girls being chosen as the school musical is the fact that students have seen the movie, have favorite characters, and they can semi-relate because the show is set during high school.
“My favorite Mean Girls character is definitely Karen. She is so funny and brings so much energy into each performance! Karen is just a vibe in general,” said Johnson.
Some other key cast members include: Kennisyn Nanninga playing Cady, Lainey Beaty playing Regina, and Tony Manaco playing Damian. The theater department is preparing for an amazing show and is hoping to help students create some outstanding memories.
“It is going to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our hard work and dedication from the cast and crew,” Johnson said.
