Dancing with the Stars hits North

Dancing with the Stars hits North

With signs plastered on the walls of the school and announcements on the broadcast, it was hard to miss the highly anticipated event: Dancing with the Stars. The Golden Girls dance team has been planning this event, which took place on Friday, November 2, as a way of fundraising.

“Dancing with the Stars was a fundraiser to help us raise money to get to Nationals in Chicago. We came up with the idea last year and it really helped raise money, so we did it again this year,” sophomore Lindsey Buckholz said.

A member of the Golden Girls dance team was paired up with a male representative from participating clubs, sports, or school-wide activities. The Golden Girl member choreographed the dance and chose the song, and then met with their partner on the Thursday before to rehearse.

“We got together a week before and created our own dance moves. We worked for about an hour each day. We really just let the creativity flow and tried to make it fun and entertaining,” senior David Roelofsz said.

Ten percent of the money raised that night was to be awarded to the club or activity that the male partner represents, which ended up being $120. Sophomore Alayna Powell, member of the Golden Girls, and junior Jackson Triplett, took first place, awarding the money to the men’s tennis team. Additionally, $30 was donated to United Way in honor of Dr. Jacobs, who took first place in the teacher category.

“Winning was the greatest feeling in the world, especially with all the hard work we put into the dance. It was a great feeling when Alayna and I won; we knew we had worked so hard for it,” junior Jackson Triplett said.
