Advertisements are a big part of everyday life, whether a company is trying to get you to buy something or join them, and North has its own form of advertisements.
“I joined robotics club because I saw some posters up in the lunch room and realized that it was something I might be interested in, and I’m really glad I did because I really look forward to our meetings,” sophomore Kalayah Harper said.
Clubs are student-led groups that meet periodically before or after school. While any student can create a club and advertise for it, they need to be approved by the office and have a staff member sponsor them.
“We have to get the posters approved by the office before we put them up, but we usually put them in the busier hallways,” senior Kimora Goode said.
The most popular form of club advertisement is posters. As students walk the halls, eye-catching posters line the walls.
“Every year we have about 5-10 students that will join BSA from our posters, usually freshmen or sophomores,” Goode said.
Clubs will also advertise on their social media accounts, with graphics showing recent and upcoming club activities.
“I see a lot of advertisements on social media for clubs. When I was in German club there was a girl in charge of the social media but she never posted anything, and I think we lost a lot of potential members due to that,” junior Kaelyn Greer said.
Posters and social media posts feature eye-catching graphics that capture the attention of many students on their way to class.
“It’s really cute when clubs make their own posters from scratch. It makes me more likely to look at them if I can tell a lot of effort went into it. Especially when they have student-made designs instead of a template,” Greer said.
