A new event has started by the sophomore class.  In advisory on Thursdays, the sophomore class will be helping out their choice of charities.  Each advisory classes had the chance to come with projects they would want to help with. Then they voted on their top choice and will support that charity for the rest of the year.

“We picked a clothing drive for Hillcrest in Liberty and we are teaming up with another advisory class. We picked this project because we thought we could get a lot of support for the cause,” sophomore Hannah Gabauer said.

There are many charities to choose from to help; many for the same cause and have similar needs.

“We are supporting either the Ronald McDonald House or the Soup Kitchen. We chose to bring a lot of different items like shoes, pants and maybe even food items,” sophomore Cierra Martin said.

Mrs. Black’s advisory is not doing their project by themselves; they are actually teaming up with Mrs. Higgins’ class to help Marsha Merrick.

“We are making sack lunches for homeless people downtown.  We chose this project because Miss Black is good friends with a lady who makes about 500 sack lunches for people by herself,” sophomore Brenden Johnson said.

Step one of the advisory charity projects was to pick the project and charity. The second step is to carry out the project.

“Everyone in my advisory class signed up for different foods to bring in. Students also brought in paper bags.  The week after spring break we are going to go to Mrs. Fowler’s room and make the sack lunches in an assembly line style,” sophomore Meric Schonemann said.

All around at Liberty North, the sophomore advisory classes are engaging in charity projects.  These projects include: Mrs. Lynn and Mrs. Zerr’s clothing drives, Mrs. Kings’ collecting supplies for the Liberty Animal Shelter, Miss Black and Mrs. Higgins’ sack lunch making, Mr. Frank’s bake sale, Miss Saverino’s adopting an eagle, and Mr. Fairhurst’s military care packages.

“It is important to do these charity projects because students need to be apart of the community and it shows that Liberty North is part of this community. It helps students learn responsibility and dedication towards a good cause,” sophomore Montana Grizzle said.
