A Night of Flight

A Night of Flight

There are several ways to kick off a new school year. One is with free food. On Friday, August 16, several hundred students, parents and faculty attended the 4th annual Eagle Flight Night/Open House, which featured food and entertainment supplied by the Screamin’ Eagles marching band, cheer squad, and Golden Girls. Prior to the performance, the cheerleaders were anticipating its commencement.

“We need more entertainment before anything starts. Because right now we’re just standing around waiting, and then the band will perform,” junior Sydney Wehmeyer said. “A lot of people showed up, so it’s heading in the right direction.”

With many of the attendants in line to receive the free food supplied by Price Chopper, including many members of the band, there was not much else for the cheer and dance squads to do but stand around and wait. However, there was still excitement in their midst.

“It’s fun; we like performing. We like the fight song,” sophomore Claire Rose said.

The cheerleaders were not the only ones excited; the band, whose first gig of the season was last Friday in front of Price Chopper and featured music by John Williams, put on a short but energetic show with the cheer and dance teams.

“I think we played really well, and it’s awesome that we get so many gigs,” sophomore Kala Hughs said.

After the Flight Night festivities, the Open House portion took over, as parents were able to stop by their student’s classes and meet their teachers in a casual, informal setting.

“It’s nice and it’s a good way for our parents to meet the teachers before the school year kicks off,” sophomore Sara Venier said.
