The Season of Records

The Chiefs are 6-0 and are now the holder of two records: loudest Stadium, 137.5 decibels and largest fly over, 49 planes. The fans beat the record for loudest stadium by just under one decibel; the previous record was 136.6 decibels. The Seahawks grabbed the title less than a month ago when they stole the record from fans of a Turkish soccer club, (Chicago Tribune). The Seahawks congratulated them with a tweet, “Congratulations. All records are meant to be broken.”

Fans were excited to be there. The thought of breaking a record kept the excitement going.

“The amount of people at the stadium was crazy. I was working in one of the shops that sells t-shirts and other souvenirs and our shop was jam packed the whole time,” sophomore Claire Rose said, “The noise was insane. From the time the gates opened to the time that the last person left the stadium, you couldn’t hear anything but excitement and screaming.”

The noise never stopped. The Chiefs fans there wanted to beat the record.

“It was crazy, the ground was shaking, and veins were bulging out of necks everywhere. People were so red in the face from yelling,” freshman Mac Newton said. “The sound was crazy loud. My ears rang for half an hour after the game. Everyone said it was the loudest thing they had ever heard.”

To add the the loudness, the largest flyover occurred with pink smoke in honor of breast cancer before the game.

“They had a 49 plane flyover as the largest civilian flyover ever. They flew in a V formation like geese and expelled pink smoke in honor of breast cancer awareness,” Newton said. “It felt really cool and like we were making a difference, because the Raiders got three offsides penalties and two delay of games because of the noise. We really did feel like the 12th man.”

The records were beat and the Chiefs had won.

“I feel so lucky that I got to go to that game. Not only did we beat our rivals, the Raiders, but we are now 6-0 and we beat two world records all in one game. This was a great experience that I will never forget,” Rose said.
