For being such a young school, Liberty North has some amazing athletes that make for a very successful athletic program. This past weekend, the Golden Girls earned several awards and trophies for Liberty North. The girls competed in the Regional Competition at Lee’s Summit North High School on Saturday, January 26.
“We have been practicing the two routines we took to the competition since November, and we practice Monday through Friday. There is a lot that goes into it, but it definitely pays off,” sophomore Alayna Powell said.
By the end of the day, the dance team had received 1st place in the 4A Dance category and 1st place in the 4A Hip Hop category. Both awards are a huge accomplishment.
“We were really excited about taking first place for both of our routines. We felt like we performed very well,” junior Alex Tegler said.
In addition, they received a Showmanship Award for the Hip Hop routine. On top of the individual successes, the Golden Girls places 1st overall for teams that competed with two dances.
“Taking first place overall was really exciting for us. I think it really pumped us up for State,” sophomore Breanna Pinedo said.
After the successful weekend, the dance team will start preparing for the State Competition where they will take both of their award winning dances. The State Competition is held in St. Louis, MO at the end of February.
