The District Battle

District play in high school can be a big deal. Teams fight for their spot to go to playoffs and state championships. Football is not the exception.

The Eagle’s football team has been lifting weights, holding camps, and practicing since this summer. They train and focus on what team they are playing week by week. Practicing hard and mental reps has been the key to their record 6-4 and averaging 24.8 points per game.

“This season has been awesome. I have made a lot of new friends and now I have a new family too. This season and last season are really different so its hard to compare them,” sophomore Zack Webb said.

When it came time for districts, the team was ready to travel to St. Joe Lafayette on Thursday, October 25. Again like last year, the game was bitter cold, but this year on top of the weather, they had to play on a grass field. They game started and St. Joe Lafayette’s offense came on the field. They beat the Eagle’s defense and got the first touchdown. By the end of the first half, the Fighting Irish were ahead. Second quarter was a turnaround point in the game for the Eagles; they played and came back to win 21-13.

The football players and coaches are proud of how far the team has come from the very beginning.

“We have gone miles, we have become brothers, become faster and stronger,” junior JJ Jennings said.

Beating Lafayette, the Eagle’s will move on to the next round in districts. They will travel to Platte County on Halloween, Wednesday October 31, 2012.  They have played the Pirates before earlier this season; this rematch will determine who goes on further in the playoffs. The Eagle’s are already preparing for the game, having Saturday and Sunday practices.

The Eagle’s have made a high goal for themselves this year.

“Our goal to make it to state and win,” Jennings said.
